Deconstruction

Ok - before next lesson you need to deconstruct the folllowing cover. Remember your language use - semantic analysis (connotation, signifier et al) and highlight the postves as well as any improvements.

    I think this cover is really good, I like the layout and think the smaller picture in the frame is really effective and I also like the font that is used for both the information and the title. The one thing I would change would be the fact that you can't see what the title says properly and I would advise that the main image of the model be moved down slightly.

    This cover shows qualities of maturity and understanding of what is needed on a magazine cover. I like the placement, sizes and fonts used for the sale lines and think they really add to the impact.
    However, I struggled to read the mast head and although it does look good when the image is over the top of the writing, I think it has been done a little too much here. Also, I think the image in the smaller picture looks a bit odd because it is the same person in the same clothing. If it was a different outfit or person I think this would help greatly.
    Overall, it is very good.

    I really like this magazine cover, it looks really professional and sophisticated, although it does connote a lifestyle magazine more that a music magazine... maybe the secondary image could be changed to represent something within the music genre rather than a repeated image of the model.
    Also, with reference to 'the rule of thirds' the image placement is good - however the eye is drawn to the barcode. Personally, I would move the barcode either to the foot of the page or even to page two/three.
    I love the font type and colours used - it is really effective!

    I like elements of this magazine, for example, the headline is behind the image rather than on the image which i think has been done well. The image looks good and edited well. However, the text is quite difficult to read due to it all being in capitals. The text is also quite cramped and makes it once again hard to read. I also like the aspect of the other picture in the corner but it would be better if the person had different clothes on because it clashes with the other picture. Overall, I do like this cover.
